Acts of Union

The Acts of Union 1707 were a series of laws that united the separate kingdoms of England and Scotland into a single sovereign state called Great Britain. This union aimed to increase political stability, economic cooperation, and military strength. As a result, Scotland surrendered some of its parliamentary independence and representation, while gaining access to the larger English market and an expanded empire. The acts created the Parliament of Great Britain, located in Westminster, where both English and Scottish representatives could legislate together. The union laid the groundwork for the modern political landscape of the United Kingdom.
