The '45 (The Jacobite rising of 1745)

The Jacobite rising of 1745, often called "The '45," was an attempt by Charles Edward Stuart, known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, to reclaim the British throne for his father, James Francis Edward Stuart. Supporters, mostly Scottish Highlanders, sought to restore the Stuart dynasty, which had been ousted in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The uprising began with a successful battle at Prestonpans but ultimately failed at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The defeat marked the end of significant Jacobite hopes for restoration and led to increased repression of Scottish culture and clan systems in Britain.
