The Battle of Königgrätz, fought on July 3, 1866, was a decisive conflict during the Austro-Prussian War. It took place near Königgrätz (now Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic) between the forces of the Kingdom of Prussia and the Austrian Empire. Led by General Helmuth von Moltke, the Prussian army used modern tactics and superior technology, including the breech-loading needle gun. The victory solidified Prussia's dominance in German affairs and led to the unification of Germany under Prussian leadership, significantly altering the balance of power in Europe.
