Helmuth von Moltke the Elder (1800–1891) was a Prussian general and military strategist known for his innovative tactics and organization of the German army. He played a crucial role in modernizing military operations, emphasizing mobility, flexibility, and the importance of communication. His strategies were instrumental during the Austro-Prussian War (1866) and the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), leading to swift victories. Moltke also pioneered the concept of “mission command,” allowing subordinate officers greater autonomy.
