Schengen Architecture

The Schengen Architecture refers to the framework of agreements and policies that enable passport-free travel across 27 European countries, known as the Schengen Area. Established in 1985, it allows people to move freely between these nations without customs checks at their borders. While this promotes easy travel, countries maintain external border controls, meaning travelers from outside the Schengen Zone must still go through security checks. The Schengen Agreement also includes collaboration on security and law enforcement to address issues like illegal immigration and crime, ensuring safety while facilitating movement across member states.
