Saint Dominic
Saint Dominic, born in 1170 in Spain, was a priest and the founder of the Dominican Order, also known as the Order of Preachers. He emphasized the importance of education, preaching, and living a life of poverty. His mission was to combat heresy through preaching and teaching, rather than through force. The Dominicans became known for their intellectual rigor and commitment to studying theology. Saint Dominic was canonized in 1234, and his feast day is celebrated on August 8. He is often depicted with a dog, symbolizing loyalty and the spread of the Gospel.
