Catherine of Siena
Catherine of Siena (1347–1380) was an Italian mystic, writer, and activist, known for her deep spirituality and strong advocacy for the Catholic Church reform. A member of the Dominican Order, she experienced visions and intense religious devotion. Her most notable work, “The Dialogue,” reflects her mystical experiences and theological insights. Catherine played a crucial role during the Avignon Papacy, urging Pope Gregory XI to return to Rome, which he eventually did. She was canonized as a saint in 1461 and later declared a Doctor of the Church, recognized for her significant contributions to spirituality and theology.
