PCR Primers

PCR primers are short sequences of DNA that serve as starting points for DNA synthesis during the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). In PCR, scientists want to make many copies of a specific DNA segment. Primers bind to the beginning of the target sequence, allowing an enzyme called DNA polymerase to extend the DNA strand and create copies. By choosing specific primers, researchers can amplify only the DNA they are interested in, enabling studies in genetics, diagnostics, and research. This technique is essential for tasks like detecting viruses or studying genes.
