Patellar Tendon

The patellar tendon is a strong band of tissue that connects the kneecap (patella) to the shinbone (tibia). It plays a crucial role in allowing you to straighten your leg and kick or jump. When the muscles in your thigh contract, the patellar tendon transmits that force to the shinbone, enabling movement. It also helps stabilize the kneecap during activities. Because of its vital function, the patellar tendon can sometimes become inflamed or injured, especially from overuse or sudden trauma, leading to pain and difficulty moving the knee.
