oxidative metabolism

Oxidative metabolism is a process by which our bodies convert food into energy using oxygen. It primarily occurs in the mitochondria, often referred to as the "powerhouses" of our cells. During this process, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are broken down, and oxygen helps to release energy stored in their chemical bonds. The result is ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which cells use to perform various functions, such as muscle contraction and brain activity. This method of energy production is efficient and produces water and carbon dioxide as byproducts, which are expelled from the body.
