ATP synthase

ATP synthase is an enzyme embedded in cell structures called mitochondria, which produce energy. It functions like a molecular turbine, using a flow of protons (positively charged particles) across a membrane to generate ATP, the main energy currency for cells. As protons pass through ATP synthase, it spins and drives a chemical reaction that combines ADP and phosphate into ATP. This process efficiently converts energy from food into a usable form, fueling cellular activities. Essentially, ATP synthase transforms a proton gradient into the energy your cells need to perform various functions.
