Orde Baru (New Order)

Orde Baru, or the New Order, was the government led by General Suharto in Indonesia from 1966 to 1998. It followed the fall of President Sukarno and aimed to stabilize the country after political turmoil. Suharto's regime focused on economic development, reducing inflation, and attracting foreign investment, which led to significant growth. However, it was also characterized by authoritarian rule, human rights abuses, and repression of dissent. The New Order ended in 1998 amid financial crisis and widespread protests, leading to a transition towards democracy in Indonesia.
