Suharto's New Order regime

Suharto’s New Order regime, from 1966 to 1998, was a period of strong centralized government in Indonesia. After overthrowing Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, Suharto focused on stabilizing the country’s economy and reducing communist influence. His government maintained control through military power and limited political freedoms, promoting economic growth by encouraging foreign investment. While it brought some stability and development, it also involved corruption, human rights abuses, and suppression of dissent. The New Order ultimately ended amid economic crisis and widespread protests, leading to Suharto’s resignation.
