Soeharto's New Order

Soeharto's New Order was a period in Indonesia from 1966 to 1998 when President Suharto held strong centralized power, after ending a period of political chaos and upheaval. He prioritized economic development, maintaining stability, and reducing communist influence. While he achieved growth and modernization, his rule was also marked by authoritarian practices, suppression of political dissent, corruption, and human rights abuses. The New Order aimed to create order and progress but often restricted freedoms and concentrated power in the executive branch. It ended with Suharto’s resignation amid economic crisis and widespread protests.
