OAU (Organization of African Unity)
The Organization of African Unity (OAU), established in 1963, was a continental organization aimed at promoting unity and cooperation among African nations. It focused on issues like independence from colonial rule, economic development, and political stability. The OAU sought to prevent conflicts and support solidarity against apartheid and colonialism. In 2001, it was transformed into the African Union (AU) to enhance its effectiveness in addressing modern challenges, such as human rights and economic integration, while continuing to foster collaboration among African countries for their collective progress.
