Organization of African Unity Treaty
The Organization of African Unity (OAU) Treaty was established in 1963 to promote unity, solidarity, and cooperation among African countries, helping them achieve independence and development. The treaty aimed to support political stability, end colonization, and promote economic progress across Africa. It also sought to provide a collective voice in international affairs and resolve conflicts peacefully among member states. Structured as a mutual alliance, the OAU emphasized respect for sovereignty while working together on shared goals. In 2001, it was replaced by the African Union (AU), which builds on the OAU’s principles but with a broader focus on economic integration and development.
