NuRD complex
The NuRD complex, or nucleosome remodeling and deacetylation complex, is a group of proteins that plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression. It helps control which genes are turned on or off in cells by altering the structure of DNA and modifying histones, the proteins around which DNA is wrapped. By moving, removing, or adding chemical groups to histones, the NuRD complex influences how tightly DNA is packaged, making it more or less accessible for the machinery that reads genes. This regulation is essential for processes like cell differentiation and responding to environmental signals.
