North African Campaign
The North African Campaign (1940-1943) was a series of battles fought in North Africa during World War II, mainly between the Axis powers (primarily Germany and Italy) and the Allies (mainly the UK and later the US). The fighting centered around control of the Suez Canal and access to oil supplies in the Middle East. Key battles included those at El Alamein and Tobruk. The campaign ended with the Allied victory, which allowed them to launch further operations into Southern Europe, marking a significant turning point in the war.
