Qattara Depression

The Qattara Depression is a vast low-lying area in northwestern Egypt, notable for being one of the lowest points in Africa, sitting about 133 meters (436 feet) below sea level. It covers approximately 19,605 square kilometers (7,582 square miles) and is mostly uninhabited. The depression features salt flats, sand dunes, and occasional vegetation along watercourses. Despite its harsh environment, it has potential for renewable energy projects, like wind and solar power, due to its climatic conditions. The Qattara Depression presents both geological interest and opportunities for sustainable development in Egypt.
