Operation Torch

Operation Torch was the Allied invasion of North Africa during World War II, launched in November 1942. The operation aimed to establish a foothold against Axis forces and to relieve pressure on the Soviet Union in the east. American and British troops landed in Morocco and Algeria, facing Vichy French resistance before securing control. Torch marked the first major offensive involving American forces in the European theater, helping to shift the momentum in favor of the Allies and paving the way for further campaigns in Europe.
