Muscle soreness, often experienced after exercise, especially when trying new activities or increasing intensity, is known as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). It occurs due to microscopic damage to muscle fibers. As the body repairs these fibers, they strengthen, leading to long-term benefits. Symptoms typically include stiffness, tenderness, and pain in the affected muscles. While uncomfortable, soreness is a normal part of the muscle-building process and usually subsides within a few days. To alleviate it, gentle stretching, hydration, and rest can be helpful.
