Mohammad Zahir Shah
Mohammad Zahir Shah was the last king of Afghanistan, reigning from 1933 to 1973. He is known for his attempts to modernize the country and promote reforms in education and infrastructure. Zahir Shah's rule saw relative stability and development, but he faced challenges from political factions and economic issues. In 1973, he was overthrown in a coup led by his cousin, Mohammad Daoud Khan, while he was in Italy. After years of exile, he returned to Afghanistan in the early 2000s, but he did not regain power. Zahir Shah is often remembered as a symbol of a more peaceful, unified Afghanistan.
