Mohammad Najibullah was an Afghan politician and former leader, serving as the President of Afghanistan from 1987 until 1992. A member of the People's Democratic Party, he was known for implementing policies aimed at modernizing the country amidst ongoing conflict. Najibullah initially supported the Soviet regime but later sought to distance himself from it. His government faced significant opposition leading to civil unrest, and in 1992, he was ousted amid the collapse of communist rule. After his resignation, he was captured and executed by the Taliban in 1996, marking a turbulent period in Afghanistan's history.
