King Zahir Shah
King Zahir Shah was the last monarch of Afghanistan, reigning from 1933 until 1973. His rule focused on modernization, education, and rebuilding the country after years of turmoil. He introduced democratic reforms and sought to develop infrastructure, making significant progress in education and healthcare. In 1973, he was overthrown in a coup led by his cousin while he was in Italy for medical treatment. Zahir Shah lived in exile for nearly four decades before returning to Afghanistan in 2002, after the Taliban regime was toppled. He played a symbolic role in national reconciliation before passing away in 2007.
