Mexica (Aztec)
The Mexica, commonly known as the Aztecs, were a prominent civilization in central Mexico from the 14th to the 16th century. They established a powerful empire centered in Tenochtitlán, the modern-day Mexico City. The Mexica were known for their advanced agricultural techniques, impressive architectural achievements, and a complex social and political structure. Their culture included rich traditions in art, religion, and astronomy, with a pantheon of gods. The empire fell to Spanish conquistadors led by Hernán Cortés in 1521, leading to profound changes in the region and the eventual colonization of Mexico.
