Maya Codices
Maya codices are ancient books created by the Maya civilization, dating back to around 1000 years ago. They are made from bark paper or animal skin and are folded like a screen. These codices contain valuable information about Maya history, rituals, astronomy, and their writing system, featuring intricate hieroglyphs and colorful illustrations. Unfortunately, many were destroyed during Spanish colonization, but a few survive today, providing crucial insights into Maya culture and knowledge. The remaining codices are considered some of the earliest surviving written records of Mesoamerica.
