Madrid Codex
The Madrid Codex is an ancient Mesoamerican manuscript created by the Maya civilization around the 12th or 13th century. Made from bark paper, it contains detailed hieroglyphic writing and colorful illustrations that depict religious rituals, astronomical observations, and calendar systems. As one of the few surviving pre-Columbian texts, it provides valuable insights into Maya culture, cosmology, and traditions. The codex was used for ceremonial purposes and is considered a crucial artifact for understanding Maya history and beliefs. Today, it is housed in the Museo de América in Madrid, hence its name.
