Louis the Great
Louis the Great, often known as Louis XIV of France, reigned from 1643 to 1715 and is one of history's most famous monarchs. He embodied absolute monarchy, famously stating, "L'État, c'est moi" (I am the state). Louis centralized power, diminished the influence of nobles, and transformed France into a leading European power through military conquests and cultural patronage. His reign is noted for the construction of the Palace of Versailles, which exemplified royal grandeur, and for fostering art and culture. However, his wars and extravagant spending also burdened France with debt, contributing to future social unrest.
