Leif Erikson
Leif Erikson was a Norse explorer from Iceland, believed to have lived around 970-1020 AD. He is often credited as the first European to reach North America, particularly around the area known as Newfoundland in Canada, which he called Vinland. This journey occurred about five centuries before Christopher Columbus's famous voyage. Erikson's explorations were part of the Viking Age, during which Norse seafarers expanded their reach across the North Atlantic. His legacy highlights the Viking influence in early exploration and their interactions with Indigenous peoples in the regions they visited.
