Historical Iceland

Iceland has a rich history that begins with its settlement in the 9th century by Norse explorers and farmers. It established a unique form of governance with the Althing, one of the world's oldest parliaments, in 930 AD. The country was influenced by both Norse culture and the Christianization of the 11th century. In 1262, Iceland entered into a union with Norway, later becoming part of Denmark in the 19th century. Iceland gained independence in 1944, becoming a republic. Today, it is known for its stunning natural landscapes, vibrant culture, and strong emphasis on literature and sustainability.
