Viking Navigation

Viking navigation relied on a combination of natural indicators and practical tools. They used the sun's position, stars, and landmarks during the day, while at night, they navigated by stars, particularly the North Star. Vikings also observed ocean currents, wind patterns, and bird migrations to help them find land. They utilized a technique called "sailing into the wind," which involved adjusting their sails and course based on wind direction. A tool known as a sun compass might have helped them determine direction on cloudy days, and they developed a unique understanding of their maritime environment through experience and lore.
