The Vinland Sagas
The Vinland Sagas are two medieval texts, "The Saga of the Greenlanders" and "The Saga of Erik the Red," that recount the Norse exploration of North America around the year 1000 AD. They tell the stories of Vikings, led by figures like Leif Erikson, who sailed from Greenland to a land they called Vinland, identified by some as part of present-day Canada. The sagas blend history, legend, and adventure, highlighting the Norse culture and their encounters with Indigenous peoples. They are among the earliest known accounts of European presence in North America before Columbus.
