Helge Ingstad
Helge Ingstad was a Norwegian explorer, archaeologist, and writer, best known for discovering the remains of a Viking settlement in North America at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland, Canada, in the late 1960s. This site provided compelling evidence that Vikings, led by Leif Erikson, reached North America around the year 1000, long before Columbus. Ingstad's work significantly contributed to our understanding of Norse history and their exploration beyond Europe. His discoveries confirmed the presence of pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contact and enriched the narrative of early European exploration in the Americas.
