Ingstad Family

The Ingstad Family is best known for their significant contributions to the exploration and understanding of Viking history. Notably, Helge Ingstad was a Norwegian explorer and archaeologist who, along with his wife, Anne Stine Ingstad, discovered the Viking settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland, Canada, in the 1960s. This site is the first confirmed Viking location in North America, providing essential evidence of early Norse exploration beyond Greenland. Their work helped reshape our understanding of Norse history and their voyages across the North Atlantic.
