Decline of the Viking Age

The Viking Age, which lasted from around 793 to 1066, declined due to a combination of factors. As their raids became less profitable, Vikings began to settle in the lands they had invaded, integrating into local societies. The growth of powerful kingdoms in Europe, along with stronger defenses, made raiding more difficult. Additionally, as Christianity spread, many Vikings adopted the new faith, which diminished their warrior culture. By the late 11th century, political changes, economic shifts, and the establishment of stable states marked the end of their era of exploration and conquest, transitioning them into more settled agricultural life.
