Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands (KPD)

The Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands (KPD), or Communist Party of Germany, was founded in 1918 following World War I as a revolutionary party advocating for Marxism and a socialist society. It sought to represent the working class and aimed to overthrow capitalism. The KPD played a significant role during the Weimar Republic but faced increasing suppression, particularly under the Nazi regime. After World War II, the party was reestablished in East Germany, becoming a key player in the establishment of a socialist state until its eventual dissolution with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
