Ernst Thälmann
Ernst Thälmann was a German communist leader born in 1886 who led the Communist Party of Germany during the Weimar Republic era. He strongly opposed the rise of Nazism and promoted workers' rights and socialist ideals. Thälmann was imprisoned by the Nazi regime in 1933, shortly after Adolf Hitler came to power, and remained in prison until his execution in 1944 by the Gestapo. He became a symbol for anti-fascist resistance within Germany. His legacy is complex, reflecting both his dedication to communism and his role in Germany's turbulent political history.
