King Richard the Lionheart
King Richard the Lionheart, born in 1157, was the King of England from 1189 until his death in 1199. Known for his military leadership, he earned the nickname "Lionheart" for his bravery, particularly during the Third Crusade, where he fought against Saladin for control of Jerusalem. Richard was admired for his chivalry and commitment to the crusading cause, even though he spent little time in England. His reign is often seen as a time of both valor and conflict, as he focused on battles in the Holy Land rather than domestic governance. He died from wounds sustained in battle.
