Kalmar Union
The Kalmar Union was a political alliance formed in the late 14th century that united the kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden under a single monarch. This arrangement, known as a personal union, meant that while each country maintained its own laws and customs, they shared a king. The union aimed to strengthen their collective power against external threats, particularly from rival nations. However, differing interests and local conflicts led to tensions, ultimately causing the union to dissolve in the 16th century, with Sweden and Denmark going their separate ways.
