Margaret I of Denmark (1353-1412) was a significant medieval ruler known for uniting the Scandinavian kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden under a single crown through her political acumen. She became queen consort of Norway and then ruled as regent for her young son, King Olav IV. Margaret established the Kalmar Union in 1397, which aimed to consolidate power and strengthen the region against external threats. Her leadership and vision laid the groundwork for a more unified Scandinavia, making her one of the most influential female leaders of her time and a key figure in Northern European history.
