John of Damascus

John of Damascus, also known as St. John Damascene, was an influential theologian and scholar in the 8th century. He is best known for his defense of icons in Christianity and his role in the development of Eastern Orthodox theology. Living in the city of Damascus during a time of political and religious upheaval, he wrote extensively, including the "Three Apologies Against Those Who Attack the Holy Images" and "The Fount of Wisdom," which systematically presented Christian doctrine. His work bridged Greek philosophy and Christian theology, making him a significant figure in both religious and intellectual history.
