St. John of Damascus

St. John of Damascus, also known as John Damascene, was an influential 8th-century Christian theologian and scholar from Damascus, Syria. He is best known for his defense of icons during the Byzantine iconoclast controversies, arguing that religious images can serve as important tools for worship and understanding of faith.
