Iconostasis

An iconostasis is a decorative screen found in Eastern Orthodox and some Eastern Catholic churches, separating the altar area from the nave where the congregation sits. It is typically adorned with icons, which are religious images of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and saints. The iconostasis serves both a spiritual and aesthetic purpose; it symbolizes the boundary between the sacred and secular spaces, while also serving as a visual representation of the heavenly realm.
