Jirga
A Jirga is a traditional assembly or council found primarily in Afghan and Pakistani tribal communities, particularly among the Pashtuns. It serves as a forum for resolving disputes, making decisions, and establishing communal norms. Members of the Jirga, usually respected elders, gather to discuss issues and mediate conflicts, drawing on local customs and traditions. The decisions made by a Jirga are considered binding and reflect the collective voice of the community, emphasizing consensus and social cohesion rather than legalistic approaches. Jirgas play a crucial role in maintaining order and justice in areas where formal legal systems may be limited.
