Ionic Bonds

Ionic bonds are a type of chemical bond formed between two atoms when one atom transfers an electron to another. This usually happens between a metal and a non-metal. The metal, which loses an electron, becomes positively charged, while the non-metal, which gains an electron, becomes negatively charged. The opposite charges attract, creating a strong bond between the two atoms. This kind of bonding is common in salts, like table salt (sodium chloride), where sodium donates an electron to chloride, resulting in a stable compound made of diverse charged particles.
