Bonding theory explains how atoms connect to form molecules by sharing or transferring electrons. Atoms have outermost electrons in shells; when they interact, they achieve more stable configurations through bonds. Covalent bonds form when atoms share electrons, resulting in a strong, stable connection. Ionic bonds occur when one atom transfers electrons to another, creating charged particles called ions that attract each other. These interactions determine a molecule’s structure, properties, and stability. Bonding theory helps us understand the behavior of different substances, from water molecules to complex materials, by analyzing how atoms bond at the electronic level.
