Indigenous Caribbean

Indigenous Caribbean refers to the original peoples and cultures of the Caribbean islands before European colonization. This includes groups such as the Taíno, Arawak, and Carib, who had rich traditions, languages, and ways of life connected to their environment. Their societies were diverse, with agriculture, fishing, and trading practices. European contact during the 15th century led to significant changes, including population decline and cultural shifts due to disease, colonization, and slavery. Today, efforts are ongoing to recognize and revitalize Indigenous cultures, languages, and rights in the Caribbean region.
