National Museum of the American Indian
The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) is part of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. It focuses on the history, culture, and art of Native Americans. Opened in 2004, the museum houses a vast collection of objects, artifacts, and multimedia presentations that showcase the diverse cultures of indigenous peoples across the Americas. Its purpose is to educate visitors about the rich heritage and contemporary issues of Native communities and to promote understanding and appreciation of their contributions to society. The NMAI aims to tell the Native story from the perspective of Native peoples themselves.
