Anacaona

Anacaona was a Taino leader and poet from the Caribbean island of Hispaniola during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. She was known for her wisdom, leadership, and cultural contributions, advocating for her people’s well-being amid Spanish colonization. After her brother’s death, she became a prominent chief and symbol of Taino identity and resistance. Tragically, she was executed by the Spanish in 1503, but her legacy endures as a symbol of indigenous resilience and cultural pride in the Caribbean.
