Gluconeogenesis

Gluconeogenesis is the process by which the body produces glucose from non-carbohydrate sources, primarily during fasting or intense exercise. This occurs mainly in the liver and, to a lesser extent, in the kidneys. The body uses substrates such as amino acids, lactate, and glycerol to create glucose, which is essential for energy, especially for the brain and red blood cells. Essentially, gluconeogenesis ensures that the body maintains a steady supply of glucose, even when carbohydrate intake is low.
